The mayor of the British capital, Sadiq Khan, said people’s lives depended on staying at home. He made the statement following the news of the deaths of five urban bus drivers from the coronavirus.
Khan said he is absolutely emotionally devastated by the death of the drivers and called on people to use public transport only in cases where such a thing is inevitable. His comments came after a union asked the government for personal protective equipment for public transport workers to protect them from the risk of infection.
The mayor of London expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased drivers and described them as heroes, writes “Metro UK”. He also promised that public transport workers would be provided with safeguards and increased physical distance to bus stops and reception areas.
The United Kingdom is one of the countries most affected by coronavirus in Europe after Italy, Spain and France.
