Authorities in South Africa have said they will build a wall about 40 kilometers along the Zimbabwe border to prevent illegal migrants from fearing the spread of coronavirus.
According to foreign media reports, the Telegraph reports, the wall will be erected on each side of the Beitbridge Land Port, to ensure that no person in possession of any documents or infected will enter the site.
As of Friday, South Africa has reported 202 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with no deaths. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has already ordered the closure of 35 entry points. “This measure will not be effective if the ‘walls’ at the border are not secure,” said Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille. She further added that the works are expected to be completed within a month.
